Search for UTF-8 text

Hi,
We're evaluating the SDK for iOS and Android, and looking at the iOS documentation, it looks like the search functions accept c-style char* for the text to be searched.
We need to target several languages, does this mean we will be unable to search for special characters like accented letters?
