is it possible to show a bitmap before the pdf is rendered?

our usecase: we're downloading pdfs and while they are not on the device, a thumbnail of the page is shown. as soon as the download is finished, the pdf should be rendered.

is there a way to use the pdfview directly? (i know i could just push another imageview above the pdfview, but then i would need to implement all the functions (zoom, movement, swipe...) for that view too).
